Bíldudalur (BIU)

Bíldudalur is a town in the municipality of Vesturbyggð in the Westfjords. The town has a population of 200 people but the whole municipality has a population of 1200 people.

In Bíldudalur you can find plenty of activities. In town you can visit the Icelandic Sea Monster Museum where you can learn all about the numerous sea monsters that have allegedly been spotted around Iceland and especially in Arnafjörður fjord where Bíldudalur is nestled. The museum has multimedia display of monster tales, for the whole family to enjoy. Bildudalur has a 9-hole golf course and just outside of town in Reykjarfjörður is a nice swimming pool, open all year round.

During the summer months many travellers drive up to Selárdalur where you will find Samúel Jónsson's Art Museum. Samúel was a self-taught artist and during his pension years he built various concrete sculptures, a gallery and even a church. Over the past two decades, the Association of the Samúel Jónsson Art Museum of has restored the colourful sculptures and buildings by Samúel and rebuilt his residence.
